As you may know, I am the producer of a TV show — sounds exciting, right?! It’s really not so grand — I’m definitely in the amateur status range… and it’s a show with only one new episode per month — and it’s Public Access TV… but still — it’s true!

I love telling stories, and have long dreamed of acting on stage. But the grueling schedule of rehearsals, and the too-often need to sing at auditions (I’m tone deaf, need I say more?) has kept me from doing much on stage. Someday…

But! Storytelling is/can be theatrical, too. And so — an idea was born. It’s an admittedly odd idea, because part of what I love so much about storytelling is the ‘real’ connecting with others, of hearing/seeing/feeling/sharing voices. But TV? I rarely watch TV! But my friend Cal (Calvin Tate) convinced me I “had” to do this show! And it is great fun. Totally unpaid (even negative ‘in the hole’) — I have paid for all the props so far, including the stage set materials. A few friends have helped enormously to set up for the taping each month — but one must set up and then completely dismantle after each show — and creating story boards and finding the props – although fun, definitely is part of the commitment!

The benefits? I love it! I share stories and encourage others to visit their libraries, talk to and LISTEN to their parents/grandparents/more — and I choose the stories — with a theme of Tales from Around the World — we’ve “been to” Liberia, China, Japan, Sweden, Lenape Native Americans (USA), Antilles (Caribbean), and ???? (*a story from somewhere/anywhere) – so far on the show.

and http://tales-around-the-world.blogspot.com for the show’s blogsite (ever in development and in need of my time and energy, but nonetheless interesting, if I may say so myself).
