Events like this, when reviewed, after the fact, always remind me of the innate resilience of humankind. Awful things happen to lots of people — and yet so many survive, smile, love, hate, become bored, and ‘almost’ forget — even after unimaginable horrors. How does this happen?
I also often ponder whether we’re better off knowing such vivid details? Do we become immune to the shock because of modern technology’s ability to ‘deliver’ instant shockwaves to our homes and workplaces?
Increasingly, the yin and the yang of the ordinary and the extraordinary seem to be engaged in a tug-of-war. Do you feel that way, too?
